What will man become when science reaches the point where he can freely crossbreed DNA from different species? What will be the result of playing the creator and shaping our own species as we wish? Can we create the perfect life form?

According to the primordial soup theory, life began on Earth from a mass of organic matter. Natural selection and mutation led to the selection of plants and animals from this mass, and later humans.

The Awakening of the Chimeras series outlines a vision that further evolution could lead to a complete reassimilation, i.e. the destruc- tion of the boundaries between species through genetic manipula- tion. The phenomenon that can trigger this process is called chimer- ism.

We speak of chimerism when two or more sets of genes are present in a single species. Experimentation with the genetics of different species is primarily for the benefit of medical research, the prima- ry aim of which is to grow organs for transplantation and then to create an organism that is more perfect than any known. Because of regulations, chimera embryos can only be kept alive for 24 days without becoming fully developed.

The images in the series explore the interplay between nature and science. The constructions in the photographs are a combination of different plant and animal forms.
